Faith and works

Read James Chapter 2; secondary text Romans 6:5-23 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. – James 2:18 The second chapter of James is about how our faith must translate into actions that…

Cheerful Endurance in Trials

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to…

Longing for family, groaning for home

It seems only fitting to end this year thinking about longing. Advent season is dedicated to intentional longing, cultivating disciplines that bend our hearts toward the longing we feel for the world to be made right rather than trying to ignore it. I have longed for many things this year, but as Christmas approaches, I…

Fall On Your Knees

Read: Revelation 5 “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne…

Waiting and Hastening

Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom…

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail

And in despair I bowed my head // There is no peace on earth I said // For hate is strong and mocks the song // Of peace on earth, good will to men // Then rang the bells more loud and deep // God is not dead, nor does he sleep  // The wrong shall…

Oh Come, All Ye Faithful

And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night…

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices // For yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn – O Holy Night A light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:5 This December we find ourselves partakers of a weary world. We are discouraged, downtrodden, exhausted, and afraid. For…

What are we waiting for?

Be patient therefore brothers until the coming of the Lord. James 5:7 Have you ever noticed how the New Testament writers write with a deep sense of urgency? Their words make it sound like Jesus has ascended and will be back any minute. But for our modern ears, this can feel silly—is waiting and living…

The good gifts and the perfect gift

Advent devotional Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a…

In the Shadow of His Wings

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with…

Fearing man more than God

Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before…

About Me

Hi there, I’m Anne. I am a wife to Andrew, a mother of twin girls, a writer and theologian-in-training. My desire is that all people would know the beauty of Jesus and that Christians would daily deepen their love for Him. I studied theology and counseling at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and spent the following six years teaching, discipling and coaching women at Harvard College with Christian Union. Now, I am fortunate enough to live in the mountains and be a writer.
